Wga - Kintsugi and what is it?

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in Wga we have been learning about Kintsugi.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi is  Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art

Here are some of my ideas of kintsugi.

  •    Using colourful patches to mend your jeans

  • Fixing a friendship by apologising (and really meaning it)

  • Yourself--think of all the times you’ve fallen over or failed a test. These aren’t anything to be embarrassed about! They help you learn and have made you who you are

  •  Fixing a stuffed toy if an arm or leg gets ripped off

  •  Fixing an issue talking about it and fix what went wrong

  •  Fixing a family problem - Getting your family together and talk about what is happening

  •  Putting up a stick to help hold the new tree up

  1. Hi Nevaeh,
This is a good description of the Japanese tradition of kintsugi, the artful mending of broken pots and vases using a gold-inflected lacquer. Ka pai! I agree, that "repair" can extend to mending relationships between people? What qualities do repairers have, in your opinion?
