Do Now/ Hurricanes

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

So in English, it's another do now task this one is about Hurricanes.

Hurricanes form from water rising and evaporating and once high enough it will cool down and turn into rain droplets and become clouds.

Hurricanes are most likely to form in tropical areas where the water is 80℉.

Hurricanes Highest peak is in September.

Curacao tends to be warmer than usual on the island during hurricane season.

Why do I think this relates to our Cay reading?

I think it is because Willmstade has water all around it, also where Timothy and Phillip are they might see a hurricane or one might hit where they are.

Ten Survival tip for the Cay/What I remember happening in the book

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

So in English, I am behind in some work so here is two different bits of work for my English work so it’s a two in one, stay safe.

So the first one is ten survival tips for on the Cay.

This part is where I will write down things I remember for each chapter and listen to the audio, from Chapter 1-5

Chapter one
Most of chapter one is about the uboats/submarines and Timothy not listening to his mother.

Chapter two
in this chapter, they talk about blacking out their windows and people not wanting to sail because they could die but on February 21st was when they decided they would sail again. But on that same day, most of the ships got blown up. a few weeks later they watched as a huge boat filled with fuel sail off, but it sadly got exploded. And the mother decided to take Timothy back home.
Then weeks later they boarded the SS hato, and left and said goodbye to his father.

Chapter three
They were torpedo about three in the morning on April 6th, two days after they left. They had to abandon the ship, the boat was on fire. The lifeboat were being launched. The boat was tipping fast and the lifeboat tilted and they fell into the water. Timothy yelled for his mother then got hit in the head with something.

Chapter four
Timothy was put on a raft with Phillip and work up with bad head pains and saw a strange man with him. he looked at the sun and was blinded he got the older man to tell him what's happening

Chapter five
They collect food and try to get planes attention to safe them

The Cay (Do Now English)

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in English, in Lockdown we have been given a do now task. Sorry, I am a little behind I have been spreading sometimes with family and, doing things offline and working on some other work but here is the do now. Stay safe and becare from my family to yours

Living on the cay would be pretty difficult because if you were to have a big wind storm the sand would blow everywhere. Another reason would it would be difficult is there could be high water levels and not being able to swim would be a bad thing and you would have to leave most likely. But then it has its good sides as well because the fish will be closer inland and you will possibly have a better view of the ocean.

Calypso

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in English we had another do now, so today’s do now is about describing some music or somebody’s voice.

Their voice was soothing once you heard it, you would feel calm, and relaxed.

When I hear the song it reminds me of Hawaii. I could imagine the sound of waves and birds. listening to the song I can see the hula dancers, I could fall asleep to the sound of this music. I could even imagine people playing on the beach.

Pontoon Bridges, get to know a little about them

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in English we had another do now, so today’s do now was about Pontoon Bridges.

Pontoon bridges made they are made around wartime as river crossings. They are normally temporary and sometimes destroyed after crossing, to keep the enemy from using them, or collapsed and carried on a long march. They were used to great advantage in many battles.

Pontoons were formed by lashing several barrels together, by rafts of timber, or using boats. Each bridge section consisted of one or more pontoons, which were manoeuvred into position and then anchored underwater or land.

They reused them by taking them down and placing them somewhere else.

New Learning on Social studies

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in Social studies we are learning about cultural hate and the different types of hate, so today I will tell you what I have learnt in this class. First of all, I learnt how the different races, they stereotyped by others for example Asians are smart, technological people but they are not just that they can be a lot more than that. Here is writing about it from Zeinab a girl at  Riccarton High School. Writing link. We have learnt about Asain hate and how they are normally portrayed in movies ect. We learnt about Lgbtq+ Community, (Homophobic people). And how in New Zealand into 1960 people from the outside Islands were invited in and then 15 years later they were kicked out because the funding was falling, also how at dawn they got dragged out of their house taken to jail, and or kicked out. This is whats I have learnt about, one thing I have taken away from this class was that heaps of people give hate for no reason or because of someone’s skin colour. I hope you learnt something new and show kindness to everyone. Have a great day.

Wga

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in Wga, we are still focusing on Friendships and what we envy here is what I have done.

Name* of someone you envy:  Noah

What I envy them for is… They are really good at playing the guitar

After a good think to yourself: What is the really appealing thing here? (Not the obvious thing but what might be lying behind it). That they can play the guitar and I can’t

How can I get more of this in my life? By trying to play or come up with and olteritive

Schooner Week 2 do now

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in English we are doing a do now task, and this do now task is about Schooners

Schooners are a form of a boat it kinda looks like a normal boat, but with some different features. Normally you would see this boat with the colors Black, white, and a tannish brown. If I was to be sailing on one of these. I would imagine seeing heaps of water/sea, I would hear the ocean splashing onto the boat. What I would be feeling is hoping to see the land soon. I would predict it would be a heavy boat so that's why there are so many sails for the boat to move ford from the wind.

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in English we have been learning about U boats and here is my do now for Week 2

Three facts:

A German excavalryman and engineer named Wilhelm Bauer was the first one to invent the submarine.

There are only four U-boats remaining, preserved as museum vessels.

U-boats got their name by the German word Uterseeboot meaning Submarine or undersea boat.

This video is a good source because first of its from National Geographic and also what it would be like if you were there.

Friends and why need them/ why are they good to have and respect you need to show them

Kia ora, bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Salve and Zdravstvuyte

Today in Wga we are looking at relationships and Taha Whanau

|2/8/21|

What is a friend?

This is a pretty unusual question, but an important one. You might call someone a friend, but what does 'friend’ actually mean?

Usually, we might think of a friend as someone we spend time with, who likes some of the things we do and who we can chat to. That's nice, but there are other

things a friend might do.

What does a really good friend actually do?

  • Acknowledges your feelings (even bad ones)

  • Listens and is interested to know more

  • Apologises and will genuinely be sorry

  • Shares their vulnerabilities with you

  • Enjoys hearing about the secret bits of you

  • Makes you feel normal if you've made a mistake

Being a friend to yourself

How friendly are you to yourself? It's a strange question and it's tricky to answer... Try to catch the thoughts that go through your head. They will tell you if you're being a friend to yourself or if you are being unfriendly to yourself.

HOW DO YOU GET TO BE A BETTER FRIEND TO YOURSELF?

Once you notice you're not being nice to yourself, you can deliberately change the way you speak inside your own head. You already know how to: you can imagine what a good friend would say when things go wrong.

So when you are feeling worried or upset, or if you think you have done something stupid, you can ask yourself, 'What would a nice person say to me now?

If you try to do this regularly, it will start to become a habit. You'll find you automatically say friendly things to yourself, and life will get a lot sweeter.

It means family and friends/ Also your social wellbeing

  1. Why are 'good friend' relationships so important?

So that you have someone to rely on and talk to.

  1. Why is Respect so important for all (not just friends) of our relationships?

Because you need to show respect someone for them to show kindness to you or even help when you need help
